Ontario County SWCD Fish Stocking Program
A well-stocked pond can provide many recreational opportunities for your family. The Ontario County SWCD fish stocking program provides suitable species at a reasonable cost. Fish stocking sales are held each year in September and May; visit the OCSWCD's fish stocking page in early September or early April to place your order.
 
Note: The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requires a farm fish pond license. See the DEC Farm Fish Pond License Application form.

Free Cancer Screenings: Ovid Community Health*

Cancer is most treatable when it's detected early. Ovid Community Health will be offering a free day PAP Smears and clinical breast exams, and referring to Geneva General Hospital for same-day mammograms. Patients interested in applying for insurance can also receive help with this task.

 

*This service is available to current patients of Ovid Community Health, or new patients in need of a family doctor and/or GYN care.

A Visit to Tokyo, Japan: Environmental Consciousness Abroad

Finger Lakes Institute Program manager Sarah Meyer visited Tokyo, Japan in June 2014 as Group Leader of the Technos College International Exchange Program. Join Sarah for a slide show presentation that shares her personal observations of environmental consciousness abroad, including an awareness of how the natural environment is integrated into the personal and public spaces of Japan -- from gardens and temples to city streets and living spaces. This event is co-sponsored by Finger Lakes Community College and the Honeoye Valley Association.

ONYA - Voice of Experience 2014

At this free annual event, girls ages 12 to 18 who are accompanied by an adult woman from Ontario, Wayne or Yates Counties will have the opportunity to learn from the stories of creative and determined women. This event focuses on "life education" for girls, and emphasizes the importance of girls and women having an education and/or the skills necessary to achieve self-sufficiency. Each girl who attends the event will receive a goody bag donated by local organizations, and the opportunity to win raffle items.

 

Sponsored by ONYA (Ontario Yates Fund for Women). Doors open at 6:30 pm.
